John Garman, President
John Garman started his musical endeavors in High School where he played percussion. He was a member of the percussion section of the Norfolk Symphony in Norfolk, VA from 1969-1972 and was selected as timpanist to the Virginia All-State High School Band in 1972. After graduating, John joined the United States Army as a musician where he attended and joined the staff of the Armed Forces School of Music at Little Creek, Norfolk, VA.  He served as an Army musician for 4 years.  Upon leaving active military service John attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA majoring in Criminal Justice.  He played with bands, combos and churches around the Hampton Roads, Virginia area for the next 25 years.  His professional responsibilities caused him to withdraw from active musical activities beginning in the early 90’s and continued until his retirement in Roanoke in 2017 when he began to play outside his home with the Roanoke Valley Community Band, Winds of the Blue Ridge and the Let’s Dance Band.  In 2018, John began playing with the orchestra at the First Baptist Church in Roanoke.  He has greatly enjoyed his return to active playing and enjoys meeting and playing with the many fine musicians in the Roanoke area.  John lives in Botetourt County.
